Top Winemaker Series

Juan Jose Verdina is the head winemaker at Jamieson Ranch Vineyards, which we sold but still own a small part of. Juan Jose has emerged as one of the premier winemakers in Napa Valley. He can talk from experience about “vertical palates,” flash detente uses in red wines, and soaking techniques for 90-100 pt wines. He worked with, among others, Barry Gnekow, another great winemaker and one of my former partners. Barry consulted to JRV when Juan began with us.

It’s always worth while to see what Juan is doing. Even the greatest of winemakers don’t always get the best grapes to work with, but I’d always check out anything that Juan or Barry either one are doing. They are both highly decorated and have produced 90+ wines consistently.

If you’re interested in the best, it’s worth following Juan and Barry both.
